Restoration of Grade II listed cottage

The client originally got in tough regarding some damaged render and water ingress into the timber frame. On arrival, we discovered every elevation of the building had a cementious render.

We completed repairs on both gable elevations and the front elevation (internal and external). The team stripped the sand and cement render, completed a full frame inspection and conducted timber frame and sole plate repairs in green oak where necessary, incorporating as much of the original timber where possible. We also completed a plinth repair on the biggest gable elevation.

Finally, we insulated with lambs wool, lathed with sawn oak lath and rendered the building in a fibre-chalk mix inside and out.

Stairwell restoration on a 1700’s Coach Inn

This client at the historic Old White Horse Inn on the A140, a 17th-century coaching inn required a stairwell restoration.

The original lime plaster in the stairwell had deteriorated, with a bitumen-backed wallpaper holding it together. After a dusty day of work, we stripped everything back to reveal the original timbers and daub. We consolidated the daub by lathing over it to preserve its historic integrity and made repairs to the original lath where possible.

The team then applied two coats of Anglia Lime’s fibre-chalk. To highlight the character of the oldest part of the building, we left the timbers exposed at the bottom and plastered them as panels, restoring the stairwell’s original charm.

Gable repair Grade II listed Farm Cottage

This customer reached out to us via social media requiring us to take a look at her listed 400 year old farm cottage in Garboldisham.

The render on the gable end of the building was damaged and falling off, due to being cementious and non-breathable. We therefore removed the damaged material and rendered in lime.

Grade II* listed Farmhouse

This client approached us after a local builder recommended our services. They needed a repair on the south facing elevation on this early 14th century Grade II* listed Farmhouse.

Being a star listed building, we worked closely with Historic England throughout the project.

After the cementious render was removed, it exposed this stunning herringbone brickwork and beautiful 14th century timber frame. We’ve insulated with lambs wool, lathed in sawn oak lath consolidating and preserving the herringbone brickwork underneath.

After multiple timber and plinth repairs, the property is now ready to be rendered with two coats of Anglia Lime’s fibre-chalk.

Front and rear elevation repairs on 17th century cottage

This cottage in Mellis, Suffolk was rendered in a cementicious render preventing the building from breathing. After a local builder removed the cementicious render and recommended our servies, we re-rendered the building in two coats of Anglia Limes fibre-chalk. This is a non-hydraulic, highly flexible and fully breathable material suitable for timber frame buildings such as this.

Danny and his team have done a few jobs for me now. From outside render including lime work on an old Victorian property to internal plastering works. I genuinely can’t fault how perfect his work is and how efficient. In 10 years of painting and decorating, I’ve never found a decent plasterer until now.
