our SERVICES

Owning a heritage property is often seen as stewardship, preserving its legacy for future generations. At DJ Owen Lime & Listed we understand this responsibility and approach every project with a commitment to preserving, restoring and repairing properties while safeguarding their unique character and historical significance.

With expertise in period property restoration, we have delivered exceptional results on a wide range of projects for customers across Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and London.

Whether your property requires a full restoration, or remedial repairs, we work closely with you and heritage officers to ensure an appropriate cost-effective solution with care and respect. We also offer a consultancy service where we can provide structural, damp and condition inspections and surveys.

We just had Danny and his team to repair and render our chimney [in lime]. He did an outstanding job and the professionalism of him and his team was first class. They completed the job very quickly, to the highest of standards. We would thoroughly recommend him and his team and he will be doing all our future work as it was a job very well done.

PAUL CHALMERS

Brick, stone and wood work

Our restoration services are dedicated to preserving the unique character and integrity of historic and listed buildings. Whether carefully repairing timber frames and sole plates, restoring brick and flint work with re-pointing, or addressing structural issues, our team uses only traditional techniques and materials.

Each project presents its own challenges and rewards, requiring a tailored approach. We collaborate closely with architects and the local authority to ensure every detail is completed to the highest of standards.

In some cases, conservation takes precedence over restoration, focusing on minimal intervention to preserve original materials. With a sensitive and informed approach, we respect the craftsmanship of the past while ensuring the building’s future.

Lime Plastering

Our lime plastering services are rooted in traditional methods, ensuring the authenticity and longevity of historic buildings. Lime mortar is sustainable, breathable and environmentally friendly due to its carbonation process. From lath and lime to sand lime and chalk lime plasters, we create finishes that complement the original character of your property.

We also specialise in the restoration of wattle & daub and clay lump (see below), ensuring that every repair honours the existing structure and the building’s heritage. With a commitment to craftsmanship and history, we deliver a reliable and cost-effective result tailored to each project.

Wattle & Daub

A time-honoured building technique, wattle & daub has been used for centuries in historic and listed properties. We work to carefully restore and repair these traditional panels, ensuring their structural integrity while preserving the building’s character.

Using materials such as hazel or oak and traditional lime or clay daubs, our team restore and reinforce these historic features. Whether repairing damaged sections or recreating lost areas, we ensure the structure maintains its breathability and authenticity.

Clay Lump

A traditional and sustainable building material, clay lump is a key feature of many historic properties. Over time, exposure to the elements or lack of breathability can cause deterioration, requiring restoration to maintain its strength and character.

Our team works to preserve the structural integrity and unique heritage of each property by carefully repairing and conserving clay lump structures using traditional techniques and natural materials.

Structural & Inspection

Our consultancy services provide a thorough assessment of historic and listed buildings, focusing on damp issues, overall condition and structural integrity i.e. timber frame, sole plate inspections and movement.

With a deep understanding of period properties, we identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions to preserve and protect the building’s heritage. Whether you need an inspection for insurance purposes, prior to purchasing a property or to investigate a particular issue, our team can provide a full range of surveys and inspections. We can also liaise on your behalf with relevant planning and conservation officers.

Limecrete

Our limecrete services provide a sustainable, breathable and appropriate solution for period buildings. Ideal for older structures, limecrete helps regulate moisture, preventing damp issues while offering a durable and flexible base. We commonly use limecrete for floors and footings.

With a commitment to traditional methods, we deliver a finish that supports the longevity and functionality of your property whilst honouring traditional techniques.

I’ve had three bits of work done with Danny now at two of my properties. I’ve had some lime work done and modern plastering on my houses of which one is a listed building. He has always been reliable and hard working and the work has been very professional and to a high standard. He’s very skilled at what he does and I can’t fault the service he offers.
